So right before Jared and I got engaged, we took family pictures at my house. I know that a lot of families are super consistent with taking professional family photos every year, but mine is definitely not one of them! ha! But, Jared and I were pretty serious at this point, and even though nothing was official yet (at this point he was looking at rings with my Mom!!! I had no idea — Â haha!) we had Jared come take pictures with us and did a little mini photoshoot together! It was so much fun to have him there with me.
All the juicy details below:
Ok, so here’s the crazy part of this story. So one of my all time favorite movies and sources of inspiration is, The Sound of Music. I would spend almost every Sunday cozied up on the couch with my family to watch something and when it was either mine or my moms turn to choose the movie, it was almost always The Sound of Music. Something about the dreamy landscapes of Austria, the beautiful costume designs, and the lovely love story of Maria and Captain Von Trapp made me fall in love every. single. time. And then there’s the gazebo scene! Oh I love it all so much.
I just think that Maria is the ultimate example of timeless grace, kindness, and beauty and I never cease to be inspired by her! She is just so unapologetically herself which allows everyone around her to be the same, and that is exactly the kind of influence I hope to have on the people around me. I’ve also always dreamed of having a love as sweet and as dreamy as theirs and just feel lucky to have found that in Jared 🙂 I honestly think that there is so much power in having a vision for your life and what you want it to look like and that those same things that you are actively seeking, naturally seem to find you in the most unexpected places. If all you want is someone who loves and adores you endlessly, then you aren’t going to settle until that’s exactly what you’ve found! There’s just so much power in that, and I’ve found exactly what I wanted in Jared and feel so blessed to be able to say that!
And one of my all time favorite pictures is right after Captain VonTrapp and Maria sing, “Something Good” standing in the gazebo in the moonlight and it is the most dreamy silhouette shot of them both right after they have professed their love for each other — I have always loved it so so much! BUT, here’s the crazy part! I later realized that one of the photos I took with Jared was almost the exact mirror image of their famous photograph. ahhhh…so dreamy!
And I also realized that I was literally living that dreamy moment where Jared looks at me the way the Captain looked at Maria so many years ago…
I love this picture of the two of us so much, and in a way, this was a time when we were confessing our love because our photographer, Matt Clayton, asked us to kiss each other on this settee in front of my entire family which we had never done before and it kind of felt like a big deal hahah But I love looking at this side by side and being reminded of dreams coming true and long waits coming to an end. And let me just say– he was definitely worth the wait!
I mean….How did I get so lucky!?
“but, somewhere in my youth, or childhood, I must have done something good… “(sorry, I couldn’t resist! hahaha)
And so, it was kind of like choosing a puppy — you know how they say, “You don’t choose the puppy, the puppy chooses you,” well, this photo was too perfect to pass up! And, it helped that this photo was also pretty much the only high resolution photo we had together at this point! ha! Which was totally fine with me because I love it so much that it became the picture we used for our Save The Date cards we sent out to all our guests invited to Philadelphia for our Wedding weekend!
Â
Sidenote: Designing our Save The Date card felt like kind of a big deal as it was the first physical manifestation of all my conceptual wedding planning that I had been doing up to this point! I knew I wanted to create a brand for our wedding through the use of colors, fonts and logo so that every detail would feel amazing and cohesive. One major bonus for us was one of Jared’s sisters is a graphic designer and I was able to work with her to create exactly what I wanted!
