Honestly, I had never been to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania until I walked off the plane a few days before my wedding day — it felt a little crazy for us to choose a city and temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on the other side of the United States, but I can tell you we don’t regret it! ha! Not one bit! It is seriously one of the coolest cities in the U.S.!
But, can I tell you if I had a dollar for how many times we have been asked, “Why Philadelphia?”, we’d be rich! ha!!
So, heres the deal with Philadelphia…I did an exhaustive search of all the temples in the United States. Since I was little girl, I always imagined getting married in the Salt Lake City temple, but with it’s recent closing for renovations, we had to figure out a plan B. I was actually excited to think about finding a temple and a city that would have all the elements we were looking for in our wedding experience. Our criteria were two major things: a fun and cool city, and a beautiful temple.
I spent a whole day looking at every temple in the continental United States — I feel lucky to report that our church has some of the coolest and unique temples! Wow! (Even Idaho Falls, Idaho has a really cool temple! ha!)
So, as we started narrowing down our options, the Philadelphia temple was in the running! It was fun to realized that some of Jareds’ family had lived outside Philadelphia growing up and he had spend time in Pennsylvania and had rave reviews! We were really excited about how new and beautiful this temple was — and how it felt so historic and traditional. We were sold!
As we did more research into Philadelphia, we got excited about eating yummy food and seeing so many historical sights with our wedding party. I am sooo happy we chose Philadelphia — it was literally one of the best decisions we made! It was a perfect setting to create such a memorable setting for our special day!
